Meet our blonde bombshell Sunny. She is one of our 9 adorable cows at Solstice Kangaroo Island. Bindi, Buttons, Finn, Kitty, Roxy and their friends Starsky, Fergus and Angus will all be there too. Get up close in your guided encounter. Brush, feed and befriend these amazing creatures.

We love sheep here at Solstice KI and have a variety of breeds to showcase the varied nature of sheep farming across the world. Meet the Merinos, crossbreeds and the rare Valais Blacknose family. Shearing demonstrations at various times. Pat feed and play with the sheep in your guided encounter.

Meet the darling duck family with Mother Duck “Mrs Spot” and her adorable ducklings in tow. When you visit the farm, the ducks will be there to greet you. See them daily in your guided experience or at the daily farm show.

THE CHICKENS

The cheeky, busy and ever hungry chickens are friendly and always ready to say hello. Heritage breeds such as Gold and Silver laced Wyandottes, Rhode Island Red, Australorpe, Barnevelder, Plymoth Rock and their friends the Isa Browns (not to mention the liquorice all sort chicks) are ready to surprise and delight you with their antics.

What can we say…. No farm is complete without its dogs.  At Solstice Kangaroo Island, you may meet the canine guardians from time to time.  Bonnie and Clyde are Border Collie x Kelpies and Luna is a border Collie x Standard Poodle.  You may also meet our friends from across the island in sheep dog demonstrations from time to time.

  • Snacks + Merchandise
    We will have a selection of memorable items for customers to consider to remember their visit to Solstice KI. We have a small range of snacks and drinks available.
  • What to Wear
    The Australian climate is one of extremes. The summer can be very hot and dry and the winter can be very cold and wet. Please come prepared to enter the paddocks where the animals live with weather suitable clothing. Ideal clothing includes: · Long trousers · Closed toe shoes/boots, clean and free from any mud or dirt (biosecurity requirement) · Hat · Coat · Sunscreen · Water
  • Animal Safety and your Welfare
    We hope that you enjoy interacting with the animals of SolsticeKI however there are a few things to remember · The animals at Solstice KI are working and living on the farm. They have their own moods and feelings which change from day to day. Exact duration of interactions and photography will be dependent upon the demeanour of the animals on the day of your visit. · All children under the age of 18 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult(s) at all times · Please follow the instructions of your guide at all times · Please do not enter animal areas without your guide · Please be aware that at certain times of year there may be snakes present in the paddock areas due to the rural location · Any violence or abuse towards humans or animals will not be tolerated.
  • General Safety
    The Australian climate is one of extremes. The summer can be very hot and dry and There is usually some form of fire danger at all times during the year in Australia and for this reason, Solstice KI is a NON SMOKING zone in all areas. There are to be no flames of any kind whilst on the property without permission.
  • Biosecurity
    Solstice Kangaroo Island is a small working farm and as such we are required to maintain the highest biosecurity standards. These standards are to protect not only you when you visit the animals at the farm, but to ensure that we do not endanger the biosecurity of other farms and animals on Kangaroo Island and on the mainland of Australia. We collect your name and contact details so that in the unlikely event of any type of animal outbreak we can contact trace its origin. We ask that you use the hand sanitiser stations around the property prior to touching the animals and following your encounters We may ask you questions about where you have been prior to your visit to Solstice KI. We also as you to please make sure that your shoes are free from any mud or dirt.
